Spin up multiple environments on demand.

Often times IT is asked to provide multiple environments of the same type, on demand. An example is an environment for demo-ing software where a prospect can access and try out the various features. Or perhaps an environment where a sales engineer or a product manager can run a demo.

One challenge in implementing such an environment is managing the source environment. The typical approach is to build such an environment, then freeze the environment by building images. The problem here is in maintaining these images, since no such environment can be truly static. Various changes, such as software updates and configuration changes must be made to the image from time to time, but these can be hard to test and manage.
